I have been trying to keep the suggestions as close to Stoic writings as possble. In any case, I want to make them are close enough o Stoic teachings. I'll look to see if the Stoics have said something close enough to your suggestion. (If you know any Stoic wrting along these lines, please let me know.)
Well, I was probably inspired by the Seneca’s words you mentioned in Prokopton Daily #57: Seek the company of people who will make you a better person.
I would add one more point: Make it public. Share your intention about a good or bad habit with other people who have the same interest. Surround yourself with them, encourage them and let them also encourage you to achieve it.
I love this article and especially love the contrary habit idea. Doing the opposing habit you want to break makes so much sense! I like this one because it can work with those tricky mind habits that Im trying to break, thanks!
Good article. I loved the part on using the power of reason. Having a solid ‘why’ based on a good appreciation of the truth and one’s life situation plus reminding oneself of this reason daily works so well to fuel the habit bonfire.
"Lie down for ten days and then try to get up and walk; you’ll see how weak your legs have become. - Epictetus, Discourses 2.9".
I have read Discourses 2:9 several times and I am not seeing this quotation in it. I have seen it somewhere else, but cannot remember where. Please clarify.
Good point.

I love that! It is a longer process to find and make them friends but well worth it!

That's my favourite too!
You're right. It's 2.18 Please keep correcting me until I do a better job of keeping my notes.
